2 - Old School

  • Hip Hop on the West Coast started in dance clubs in Los Angeles in the 1970’s.
  • Initially artists were more interested in DJ’ing than rapping.  They created new beats using electronic music and digital drum kits.
  • A new kind of dancing called breakdancing came out of this music.  The dance was very popular and they even made films about it.  This helped make West Coast Hip Hop popular.
  • The Artist:  DJ Rapp is a Los Angeles based DJ and Rapper.  His career began in 1981
